Monkey monkey with his Aunty Ter |
Next Thursday sees Rod's and Ter's cousin Vida walk down the aisle into married life, and Ter is the matron of honour. I mention this because Ter commissioned me to make her jewellery for the occasion. Once upon a time, before mommyhood, hand-crafted jewellery was part of my business, and it's something I've chosen to continue with. If you have the time and inclination you can check out my Facebook page HERE. It is a bit sparsely populated with posts for now, because I am technically still on extended maternity leave for reasons I will hopefully be brave enough to talk about in the near future, but I hope to add more photos soon! But I digress... Due to recent aesthetic decisions by the bride, Ter found herself in need of a bracelet to go with the necklace and earrings I had already made, and so I find myself with a weekend project! And, if I do say so myself, it looks gorgeous!
Thursday, that is yesterday, saw me running around Olivedale Clinic again... Last Thursday I woke up in excruciating pain to discover a hard lump about the size of a golf ball in the side of my right breast. A bit of a shock! I'd dealt with engorgement before, but nothing like this! By lunch time it was the size of a tennis ball. So off we went to the gynae. A prophylactic course of antibiotics ensued to ward of the possibility of infection and abscess, and off to the physio we went. What joy is mine. Three sessions of ultrasound therapy and massage later, the lump was completely gone and I breathed a sigh of relief heard around the world. But, when I woke up yesterday morning, there it was again, staring at me as if daring me to do something about it. And so back to the doc we went. This time she didn't even see me, but sent me straight to the surgeon next door to assess the damage. I was told that, if it indeed were an abscess, I had two options - the largest needle in existence inserted into my fun pillow to extract the fluid, possibly multiple times, or surgery to drain the fluid. The latter would involve leaving the wound open to drain and heal naturally in its own time, creating a gaping maw where none should be, and a sobbing woman attached to it. That is how I ended up in radiology at 4pm yesterday afternoon, my chest covered in conductive gel and a technician squinting at a black and white screen. Not the best fun I've ever had. But admittedly not the worst. In the last week alone, five people who aren't my husband have seen me topless, but God be thanked, it is not an abscess, just an extreme case of engorgement treatable by heat, physio, diet and water. I've also read that lecithin helps thin things out, so I'm giving that a go too. But ladies, please, IF YOU EXPERIENCE THIS AND THE AREA IS RED AND HOT TO THE TOUCH, GO IMMEDIATELY TO YOUR GYNAE. NOT YOUR GP, NOT YOUR HOMEOPATH, YOUR GYNAE. AND IF THEY ARE UNAVAILABLE, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! If this is where you are, it is very possibly mastitis and needs to be treated immediately. It can escalate quickly - within a day - to the point that extreme measures need be taken. Don't panic, but take action.
And so we are caught up. This is why two days later this post comes to you.
The real thing I wanted to share was that on Saturday hubby and I went on our first date night in five months! *deafening round of applause*

Looking dead sexy on date night |
I booked us a Night Out for Two at Monte Casino - movie, dinner, drinks - and it was awesome! If you haven't seen The Heat - the new Sandra Bullock / Melissa McCarthy buddy cop flick - go watch it now! Seriously, put down your smart phone, close your laptop, and get in your car. We laughed 'til we cried, and then we laughed some more! We rounded off the evening with drinks at Cobblestones before dinner at Donatella's. I would have loved a glass of wine, but my meds were like "you be trippin'!". So water it was! It was glorious to have a few hours to ourselves as husband and wife - something that is essential to a healthy marriage once kids come along. Don't get me wrong, we missed our little man like crazy! My mom watched him for us so we could enjoy our night out, but it was a little sad not to have our little monkey monkey with us.

Kicking it with G on mommy and daddy's date night! |
He was an absolute champ for his G! After a few initial tears he played with her on his mat, ate his dinner, enjoyed a bath and went promptly to sleep at around 7pm. When we arrived to fetch him, he was out like a light! At least until he realised mommy and daddy were there. A quick boob when we got home and he was right back to sleep, little munchkin! He's spending the day with G again when we head out to Muldersdrift for Vida's wedding next week, so here's hoping he's a good little man for us again! *holding thumbs*
Until we meet again, here's to healthy boobs and less public nudity!
Smiles,
Mommy
